Great steaks on an island? Hilton Head Island is known for fantastic dining, with many seafood and southern barbeque selections. Now there is another place on the Island for superb cuts of fine steak, as well as other favorites. hh prime in the Hilton Oceanfront Resort is now open, with a large menu of huge steaks and other island favorites. The goal of the restaurant is to provide the cuts, preparation and service equal to any restaurant on the Island, and comparable to fine steakhouses in major cities. hh primeAs the name suggests, the focus is on beef, but there are other options, including the freshest seafood from the nearby ocean. The fine steaks are large and prepared to your taste. The bone-in cuts are especially tender. The ambiance is definitely tropical, with views of the ocean across the courtyard, and live music many nights from an outdoor gazebo. The restaurant seats just over 100 in a comfortable atmosphere, so reservations are a good idea. The first floor has tables, and seating at the main bar and wine bar. There is a smaller upstairs area for groups or upon request. Fireplaces provide ambiance, and open air seating is available in season. Along with the giant cuts of prime steak, family favorites such as fish and chips are prepared excellently in open view of the restaurant. Appetizers such as ahi tuna and lamb lollipops are available a la carte, as are specialty salads. Pricing is comparable to other restaurants on the Island, with a large selection of fine wines and chef-designed desserts available. In keeping with the island and resort atmosphere, appropriate dress is a nice casual. XO LoungeAlso open is the renovated bar area of the Hilton Oceanfront Resort, now called the XO Lounge. The XO is an intimate area near hh prime, with a full bar of fine liquors, televisions and music. The bar is hopping on most nights in season with live music and dancing. There is not much room for dancing in the cozy nightspot, but patrons feeling the beat can always find a place to boogie. Hilton Oceanfront ResortThe Hilton Oceanfront Resort (843-842-8000) is located on Hilton Head Island in Palmetto Dunes Plantation, at 23 Ocean Lane, right on the fabulous HHI beach. hh prime is located in the hotel activity center. The resort also offers over 300 rooms with ocean views, the Palmetto Cafe for casual dining and an oceanside restaurant named the Buoy Bar.
