Thinking of going to the coast for the weekend and not sure where to stay? This is a detailed look at some great places to stay in Charleston, SC.

Charleston, South Carolina offers something for everyone including walking on the battery, shopping at the Marketplace or sightseeing homes along Rainbow Row. It is one of the premier attractions on the Carolina coast.

Going on vacation is fun, but the hardest part is often planning the trip and finding somewhere to spend the night. It can also be time-consuming trying to decide whether to stay at a hotel, motel or bed and breakfast. To take out the guesswork, here are some great hotels in Charleston.

Battery Carriage House Inn

This historical Charleston bed and breakfast home was built in 1834 and is situated across from the beautiful waters of the Charleston Harbor. This spacious inn has 11 guest rooms that feature their own private entrance. Guests can walk across the street to White Point Gardens and examine cannons from the Civil War era.

Packages include a stay in one of the two rooms rumored to be haunted and a historical package with a tour of Charleston's many historical landmarks. Accommodations include a continental breakfast, treats and a wine tasting. The inn has a variety of rooms available all with antique decor and Southern touches. Rates run from $229 - $279 per night.

Francis Marion Hotel

Named after General Francis Marion, this Charleston hotel is located in Charleston's well-known historical district and was built in 1924. In 1996, the hotel underwent a massive renovation and re-opened to the public. It has a reputation of being one of Charleston's grandest hotels.

While at the hotel, guests have access to the Swamp Fox Restaurant and Bar, a ballroom and spa services. Guests can explore downtown Charleston and take walking tours of some of the oldest homes in the area. Organizations and business groups who wish to hold meetings in Charleston can do this in the hotel's conference center. Rates run from $192 - $236 per night.

The Cannonboro Inn

The Cannonboro Inn was built around 1853 and is another wonderful place to stay in Charleston. The owners fully restored the Victorian bed & breakfast to its original Southern beauty including a circular piazza. The house features a garden, fishponds, walking paths and a fountain.

The innkeeper, Barry Carroll, takes pride in having delicious meals including signature dishes. Guests enjoy wine and snacks in the afternoon overlooking the garden. The rooms have antique furnishings and decor including canopied beds. Visitors have complimentary adventure bicycles and free parking. The inn has packages including a visit to Magnolia Plantation and a discover Charleston weekend. Rates vary depending on the package and room requested.
