Hilton Head Island is a famous vacation spot and known for great seaood and southern cooking. After a while, even the most ardent foodie will want to break for some comfort food. Fortunately, Hilton Head has a number of fine pizzerias.
For families on a budget, the American favorite pizza is a good break from expensive meals or eating in. Hilton Head has many choices for pizza and other great Italian food.
Hilton Head has the typical choices of Pizza Hut and Domino’s, but also offers hometown pizzerias popular with locals and tourists.
The Original Giuseppi’s has two locations in the Hilton Head area.
Both locations offer the very popular pizza, with a sweet, slightly chunky sauce. The Island location is small and particularly crowded on weekends and during the busy summer season. There is outdoor seating, but lines are still common in the evening.
If you deem the wait to be too long, Giuseppi’s does offer take out and delivery.
Very few people living and working in Hilton Head today are originally from the Lowcountry, as the area is called. The Island location is filled with memorabilia from Pittsburgh sports teams, particularly the Steelers.
Giuseppi’s offers a full menu and beverages, both soft and hard, in addition to pizza. The Original Giuseppi’s reminds customers they are not be confused with a separate Giuseppi’s in Sea Pines, and does not accept those coupons.
Mangiamo means let’s eat in Italian, and the owner encourages you to do just that with an Ohio flavor. Mangiamo! is the Hilton Head home of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The restaurant has wall to wall Buckeye memorabilia, and becomes very crowded during football games. Even Golden Buckeye cards are welcome. With a full menu to complement the homemade pizza, patrons can eat inside or enjoy the covered patio.
The compact restaurant offers take-out and local delivery, and is located at 1107 Main Street in Main Street Village, (682-2444).
Other pizzerias to try include the Mello Mushroom in Park Plaza (686-2474), Bravo Pizza on New Orleans Road (342-7757), Pizza Roma near Sea Pines Circle (842-7662) and New York City Pizza on Pope Avenue (842-2227). All these restaurants have extensive menus to go along with pizza.
In addition to sampling the local cuisine, having some reasonable priced comfort food can add to the enjoyment and relaxation in a great vacation. Be sure to pick up the Hilton Head Island Restaurant Guide for more choices.
